City Paper's Best Local Bike Blog 2009
Haven't been down there lately (maybe this afternoon?), but from the photo, it looks like a base layer, and a final layer of pavement will be applied later.

I agree. The first base layer was put down over a month ago. This new one has been there a week. There's also lots of sloppy painted signage on the pavement where the trail curves to avoid the Hunting Towers parking lot. Whoever is doing this is clearly doing it as an after thought.

I thought the new pavement wasn't perfect, however it was a grand ride smoother than the potholed, graveled wipe-out mess that was there earlier.
Let's hope that it is just a base layer.

It's better than before, but still bumpy. I agree with Rootchopper.....it's being done as an after thought.
