The entire area around Monroe Avenue and Michigan Avenue NE is under construction. Along the railroad tracks, it's the Art Walk that is taking shape, and this will serve as part of the Metropolitan Branch Trail.

City Paper's Best Local Bike Blog 2009
I wish they could work something out with the land owners from Chocolate City Brewing up to Monroe Street to allow the trail to continue behind their buildings. At least 8th Street isn't that busy (right now, anyway).

I talked with Heather Deutsch at DDOT about this once. I seem to recall that she too would like this and was trying to get properties to agree or promise to allow the trail, but it was - obviously - difficult.
