Or maybe he just cares less about how he appears?
In his column on California's High Speed Rail he belittles train supporters, who he simplisticly insists like trains because they aren't cars. And they hate cars because cars provide
rampant individualism; people going wherever and whenever they want, unsupervised
He does this one sentence after he tweeks the same people for liking bikes, because they frequent shops
sporting excruciatingly cute names [like] A Street Bike Named Desire
But isn't a bike also a vehicle that allow "rampant individualism; people going wherever and whenever they want, unsupervised"? So much so that Susan B. Anthony famously said of it "I think [the bicycle] has done more to emancipate women than anything else in the world."
Which is it, do these people hate freedom of movement or love bikes? It can't be both.

Diminished Individualism Watch
A few weeks back I commented on a George Will column in which he said that
the real reason for progressives’ passion for trains is their goal of diminishing Americans’ individualism in order to make them more amenable to collectivism.
So I think that it is my civic duty to report that yesterday, as I got off Amtrak 161 from Trenton to Washington — having spent 2 1/2 hours being made more amenable to collectivism, not to mention finishing another chapter for 3rd edition — I saw George Will leaving the business class car. (I usually prefer the coach quiet car.)

George Will jumped the shark in the Reagan administration. With thinking like his NYC would never have built a single subway line.

Garry Trudeau blew the whistle on Will in the Reagan era. "Quote boy" shagged historic quotations and provided the research for George's pre-ordained conclusions. This was at approximately the time that the first Mrs. Will dumped cheating George's belongings on the front lawn. Rootchopper is right- waay past his expiration date.

I didn't know it was possible for George Will to get dumber.
He has a conclusion, and then tries to figure out how to fit 'data' into that frame.
