The most confusing thing about this is the Lon Anderson of AAA is involved, but Shane Farthing of WABA is not.

BACKGROUND:
In 2013, the region was tied for the fewest number of unhealthy air quality days since new, tougher U.S. EPA standards were introduced in 1997 for ozone and particle pollution. Council of Governments staff will present new data showing the region’s progress in improving air quality. Clean Air Partners will discuss how its outreach and voluntary actions by area residents have contributed to healthier air. Experts will also discuss challenges to further improving air quality, including growth and development, climate change, and new federal standards.
Maybe they saw the most recent ACS data too, sugggesting that increased bike ridership is reducing mass transit ridership, not the numbers driving. AAA is concerned about things that weigh a couple tons and have 4 wheels and if electric and hybrid versions of those things will have a real impact on better air quality I am sure they are all for it. It will be a great day when all cars have automatic engine shut-off: the Beltway will then truly be a parking lot.
