At a workshop on Wednesday in Frederick, about 40 municipal representatives and community organizers learned how to apply for the pot of $16 million available through Maryland Department of Transportation and State Highway Administration grant programs to support trail, pedestrian and bicycle-related projects.
MDOT and SHA representatives discussed the Recreational Trails Program, Transportation Alternatives Program, Bikeways Program and Safe Routes to School Program. Each has a different focus and different requirements, but they all serve to provide transportation options beyond driving.
It's good news, but don't forget MDOT/SHA considered crosswalks, new sidewalks, etc to all be for bikes as well.
