In my continuing effort to review pretty much anything people will send me, I bring you Grooming Lounge, maker of men's skin and hair care products. I was going to pass as I was worried that the blog was getting a bit off track, but then I realized that they're a local company and that's something I want to support.
I'm somewhat qualified, since my sister used to be a fragrance buyer for Dilliard's Department Store and she frequently gave me samples of soaps, skin care products and cologne (my wife made me throw out a bag of like 20 unopened cologne bottles when we moved), so I feel like I've seen and tried it all.
Grooming Lounge sent me three products, and right off the bat I have to say that I can't review the Grooming Lounge Hair Stuff, as I lack the hair stuff for their Hair Stuff. It smells good and, like all of their products, uses the simple blue and gray packaging that feels a little bit more dignified and classic than a lot of the stuff Mrs. Washcycle buys me at Safeway.
The Face Wash I have been using, and it's fine. I'm not blown away, but it accomplishes it's primary job of washing my face and it feels much better than the hand soap I often lazily reach for. It doesn't irritate my skin or leave any sort of residue. If I had any complaints it would be that it's branded as being "great smelling" but I found it to have not much of a scent at all (which you may prefer) and the bottle is poorly designed such that it squirts out a lot of wash if you aren't careful. In the end though, I'm not really sure what a great face wash would do. I used it with the shaving cream, and that was very good, but so was just using the shaving cream so it's hard to know how much credit the wash gets.
The Beard Destroyer Shave Cream was fantastic. I usually like a nice $1.99 can of Safeway brand shave cream, but I might not go back (even though I will miss the Santa Claus style foam beard). I have sensitive skin and so I often use an electric razor to avoid the cuts and irritation, but with their shave cream, I didn't have any problems. I shaved with it every day for two weeks and my skin is irritation free. I give it 5 inflated tires on the WashCycles non-existent product review scale.
