Turning basketball courts into skate parks is like a dissertation in demographics, sociology and gentrification wrapped into one small site.

There's still a basketball half court. There's also a fantastic bakery (Shortcake Bakery) right behind the ball court with lots of bike parking.

I think there has was a demographic shift in skateboarding that contrarian may have missed out on.

Yeah, just before this photo I saw about 15 kids on skateboards leaving the park. They did not look like gentrifiers.

I encourage folks to also look up "skate plazas" when they have the time, another really neat concept that has begun to take off and has much potential for facilitating development and revival

That park is my "Sunday School". I drop the family off for Sunday school and I ride my bike there. Then meet them at church for the regular service.

I agree, the skate plazas are a great idea. Especially when they allow bikes!

PG allows bikes in the skate spots but Montgomery County does not.

Joe, I couldn't agree more! I've spent most of my young life advocating for skateboarders and longboarders, but I am always bothered when BMXers are overlooked or parks/spots are deliberately built to not be able to withstand bikes either. If it can withstand a bike, it is that much more durable...

Probably.

Well atleast there is development on going. I like the new park better anyway Click here if you want to sop for your longboard.
