If you really want to nerd out on future bike/ped project funding goals, you could hardly do worse than to read through the MWCOG Transporation Planning Board's Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) for FY 2015-2020. That way you can impress people at cocktail parties by letting them know the status of the Winkle Doodle Branch Bridge Upgrade project.
If that's not enough, you can review the Constrained Long-Range Transportation Plan. Recent additions and changes are summarized here. The only new project listed as "primarily a bike/ped project" is one to widen VA-123 from VA 7 to I-495.
This seems to me like a big improvement over a few years ago.
But despite the purple line, which I view as an urban/semiurban project designed toward increasing density, many these projects still seem to lean toward "regional mobility" aka sprawl facilitation, at least in terms of funding levels.
I wish the highway wish lists were more tilted toward protecting the highways we have (from rising sea levels among other things) than building new community blockers out in the semi-rural areas. Just my opinion from a quick glance -- I'm certainly not an expert at interpreting these things.

Report indicates funding for completing the Met Branch between Takoma and Silver Spring transit center. Also reconstruction of the Suitland Parkway trail.
