At the most recent Recreational Trails meeting, DDOT announced that
1. The 30% trail design for the South Capitol Street Trail is nearly finished (was to be finished in Spring 2014). As noted earlier, DDOT has determined that they need more land from the Department of Defense in order to build the trail, and that will need to be negotiated before the 100% design can be completed. The Anacostia Waterfront Initiative is in charge of securing the land.
2. The start time for the Klingle Valley Trail has slipped from spring of 2014 to late 2014-early 2015.
3. A consultant is under contract to complete the design of the Oxon Run Trail. Completion slipped from this winter to next year.
4. NPS is going to do road work on Beach Drive and DDOT is in coordination with them to simultaneously make improvements to the Rock Creek Park Trail
5. DDOT is starting work on a concept plan for rebuilding the Suitland Parkway Trail. I hope this is in co-ordination with PG County so that it can extended to the Naylor Road Metro (but ideally all the way to Andrews AFB).
Any updates on the trail improvements between the 14th St. Bridge (George Mason Bridge) and Basin Drive, in front of the Jefferson Memorial.
NPS announced that the trail would be widened and improved, but that announcement was about a year ago, I think. No updates since then. Given how slowly other NPS projects proceed, I suppose we shouldn't expect to see this before 2015 at the earliest?

Was there a new deadline for the South Capitol Street Trail? There's really no good way to go up S Capitol right now! Looking forward to this coming to fruition.
