From the local motion update:
New bicycle lanes have been installed on five streets in Alexandria, adding three more lane miles of facilities to the City’s bike network. Bike lanes were installed on Wheeler Avenue and Braddock Road near the metro station in conjunction with our roadway resurfacing program. The lanes that were installed on North Hampton Drive, East Monroe Avenue and Stevenson Avenue were all Complete Streets projects that also included traffic calming and pedestrian safety enhancements as well. These included upgrades such as new crosswalks, flashing pedestrian signs and pedestrian signals to improve crossings, as well as pedestrian refuge islands and curb extensions to shorten crossing distances.
Too bad the lanes on Wheeler disappear in the middle of the stretch reappearing later, leaving another disconnected bike facility in Alexandria.
