Events DC will present the conceptual designs for the redevelopment of the RFK Stadium and parking lots tonight at 6:30pm meeting at the Convention center. The Anacostia Riverwalk Trail cuts through the area and most of the connector trails to Capitol Hill do too, so it's of some relevance to cyclists. Long ago, it was to be the site of the Olympic Velodrome.
The Post has some of the renderings in their article and among other things, they show the addition of a couple of bike/ped bridges across the Anacostia and other bridges just to the islands.
The bridge connections to the islands look cool. I wonder if they would create bike-able paths on the islands as well, or if they main point of the bridges would be for bike access to the islands.

The plans are horrible with waqytoo many buildings. What is needed is a bunch of recreational sports fields with bike paths, oreven a Veloway meandering through them. This would be much cheaper to develop, and would promote active recreation, versus spectator sports.

Its ironic that the city can't find money for lots of things, but can find $100Ms to not only build RFK for the NFL, but for traffic and Metro during games, and then for the repurposing of RFK after sports teams leave. Its not like DC would suddenly become a struggling town because a major franchise left.
Priorities, people!
