In 2014, 53-year-old Tonya Reaves was riding her bike on 8th Street NW near S Street when she was struck by a "light colored SUV". The SUV's driver then fled the scene south in the direction of Rhode Island Avenue. A month later, the driver, Dajane Thomas was arrested. She was indicted on five counts, and charged with murder II, DUI, reckless driving, hit-and-run and driving without a license.
Late last year she pleaded guilty to felony negligent homicide and reckless driving, and in February, she was sentenced to 17 months for the first charge and 3 for the second to be served concurrently. Because that included time served, she'll be released July 2017.
A civil case was settled out of court.
Fatal hit and run, and she gets 17 months.
Jesus wept.

Since she was driving without a license, I guess she won't be losing her license. I can only wonder whether the penalties were higher because she didn't have a license, and also why she lost it in the first place.

17 months for all that? Are there other stipulations like no driving ever, community service, etc?
