Development will start on the parking lots on the south side of the New Carrolton Metro very soon, maybe even now, but the project doesn't offer much for cyclists, who are being grouped in with pedestrians. For cyclists the only promise is this:
Bicycle parking facilities and circulation to the south entrance would not be permanently impacted by the development.
Hooray! Sign me up. Planning for how cyclists will move around once the development is over essentially consisted of just making cyclists ride where peds walk (remember this when getting angry at cyclists for riding on the sidewalks).
It's also good news that the project will not impact future bike lanes on Garden City Drive. It's less encouraging that it won't add them.
It feels like a bit of a missed opportunity to not build a formal bike connection between those future bike lanes and the station. Oh well, here's some rendering candy for you.
