I was going to blog about this, but Bikespecific already did it so well that I'll just point you there.
My thoughts:
- I'd like to see the trail continue along the south side of NY Ave from Bladensburg to the New York Avenue entrance. That would create a more direct connection to the arboretum.
- While it's unfortunate that the VRE project will take the railroad tunnel under NYA off the table, it's nice that DDOT is considering building a parallel trail tunnel at that spot. (though I'm not sure it would make sense. Using a free tunnel is no brainer. Building an expensive one is not).
- Yes, to the ramp connecting the Met Branch Trail to the NYA Bridge. Yes a thousand times.
- I'm disappointed to not see the trail using the abandoned rail spur and bridge parallel to the NE side of West Virginia. Disappointed but not surprised (it would be pricey and difficult to negotiate). Still a trail spur from behind Atlas Brewworks (and farther as the land is developed) to 16th and then over NYA and along the railroad to Bladensburg (with a connection to Montana) would be a nice bonus. In a dream world it would then cross to the north side of the tracks at Bladensburg and continue along that side all the way to the Anacostia, but that is like 2075 kind of stuff.
