Reminder: Today is your last chance to ride the Georgetown Branch Trail

I'll be riding it at 2:30pm starting from the Bethesda Trail head (at the west end of the Air Rights Tunnel) if you would like to join me.

Note: There is an 11th hour effort underway to postpone or scale back the closure

In a letter sent Thursday to the Maryland Department of Transportation, County Council President Roger Berliner and Council member Tom Hucker wrote that the announcement that the trail would close on Tuesday “caught many of us by surprise.” They question the immediacy and length of the closure.

“Is it absolutely essential to close all parts of the trail immediately, particularly on the day kids are returning to school?” they wrote. “We have heard many concerns from parents whose children have routinely used parts of the trail to get to school and believe both the state and county must do more to ensure alternative routes are safe.”

Also, it appears the Town of Chevy Chase is rethinking its position on the detour, according to Mayor Mary Flynn

The Town is back in conversations with MC-DOT and I hope to have a resolution in September. The questions were not requirements, but discussion points. Our Council turned over with new members, and the list was compiled to allow all new members and representatives from nearby municipality an opportunity to get up to speed.
