While not the final configuration, the gap in the Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail* is no more and cyclists can now bike from one end (Franklins in Hyattsville) to the other (the 7-11 in College Park). The gates were removed last month, but it has only been in the last week that the trail (which still includes a detour but not to Route 1 anymore) was officially opened.
Don't believe me? Check out this video of it.
Next they'll finish the trail on the north end of Riverdale Park Station, and then they need a connection to the Northwest Branch Trail on the south side.
The section north of Greenbelt Road is no longer considered part of the trail since that's just a pair of bike lanes. Still it would be nice to see those bike lanes extended all the way to Lexington Avenue in Beltsville, where another section of trail could connect it to the MVA on Route 1.
*This used to be known as the "College Park Trolley Trail" but now that it connects several towns along the way, a re-branding effort has been underway.
I rode it last week on Friday afternoon and was able to go straight through without the detour. There is a road parallel to the unfinished trail in the northern section. Some guys were roofing one of the new houses but otherwise things were pretty quite on the construction front at the time.

Sure beats going onto Rt. 1 to bypass this construction site. Can't wait for this to be really finished but for now this will do.
