I'm not sure how long they've been around, but I just learned of the organization Alexandria Families for Safe Streets.
Alexandria Families For Safe Streets (AFSS) brings the community together to create safe streets for all people to walk and bike, by telling the impact stories, increasing public awareness and support for policies and investments that eliminate traffic-related fatalities and injuries in our city.
I feel like communities used to focus on crime with things like neighborhood watches and evening patrol walking groups, but that more and more they're seeing unsafe streets as a bigger threat to their communities. I expect to see more of these groups over time, especially as more local governments adopt vision zero.
