As mentioned last month, Phase I of the South Shore Trail is nearly complete. So near in fact that they're having a ribbon-cutting next week.
Please join County Executive Steuart Pittman and the Department of Recreation and Parks for the Ribbon Cutting of the South Shore Trail, Phase I. The trail utilizes the abandoned road bed of the WB&A Railroad, and will connect with the Colonial Annapolis Maritime Trail on the east and the WB&A Trail on the west.

When complete, the South Shore Trail will be 14-16 miles long (depending on who you ask) and will run primarily on the old railbed of the Annapolis and Elk Ridge railroad. Phase I marks the second complete section, since Phase Va, between Westfield Shopping and the Anne Arundel Medical Center, opened prior to 2008 (and maybe earlier). There's also a sidepath along Odenton Road - the Odenton Road Bike Path - from The WB&A Trail to Sappington Station Road that will serve as one connection between the South Shore and the WB&A, It has, in the past, been referred to as part of the South Shore Trail too.
Phase II is closer to Odenton than Phase I, but is disconnected from Phase I until the Route 3 overpass is built to connect them. Phase II is stil in design and design and construction on the overpass is contingent upon future funding.
It's nice to have a new section open, but this much delayed project is languishing while the state moves ahead with new highway lanes.
